Meet the Med Moves team for 2021!
PresidentKailey Tang (MD3)How did you get into dancing?
I’ve been dancing for so long my memory doesn’t even go back that far. According to old photos and mum’s trusty memory, I started dancing in kindergarten, where ballet was compulsory for everyone. I can probably say that I’ve grown up on a diet of cereal and ballet. What dance experiences have you had? Um.. not much. Really. Just ballet school, random productions in primary and high school (those compulsory ones everyone has to do), then joining MedMoves! Favourite dance genre? Ballet is probably the genre I’m most comfortable with, but one of the perks of MedMoves is getting to try out a different genre every week!! Can honestly say I’ve never done contemporary, kpop, hiphop, jazz, breakdance or all the many other styles before this. And gotta say that kpop with Mona is coming in a close second place~ If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? I’m gonna go with being able to heal and spread positivity :) to help make MedMoves into an all-inclusive place that welcomes everyone regardless if you’ve never danced before, or have 20 years’ experience under your belt. And healing will come in handy in the future as a doctor In the holidays, you will most likely find me... Having too much high tea and dessert, eating takoyaki and corndogs, and working on my muffin top. Wouldn't consider myself a foodie, but my bucket-list revolves around food (it all cancels out with the dancing). Next holidays, I want to try karaoke, so find me there! |

I've always loved dancing even though I was never formally taught, but I became really interested during my final years in high school when my friends would make k-pop dance covers. What dance experiences have you had? I was a member of the Ballroom Dancing Club in Year 12, and we'd have weekly classes after school (I've forgotten everything though!). I participated in a few high school events like the Year 12 Dance battle (not as intense as it sounds haha). Then in my first 2 years of undergrad at Melbourne Uni, I joined Flare Dance Ensemble and attended casual dance classes and tried out different dance genres. Now I'm in Med Moves! I would say I'm still a beginner at dance, but what I lack in skill I make up for in enthusiasm!! Favourite dance genre? Girls Commercial. But I've started gaining an interest in Jazz due to Med Moves! If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? I was going to pick time control, but it's been picked a few times already haha. So maybe the ability to turn into different animals (I'd love to turn into a bird and fly!) In the holidays, you will most likely find me... Binge watching TV shows and K-dramas (Stranger Things anybody?) Also, watching random YouTube videos e.g. super talented people dancing (1Million Dance Studio <3) and wishing I could dance like them. |

I first started dancing during High School where there was a Breakdance Club that was open to everyone to join. At first it was just on a whim to join with a couple of friends but we soon found that it became a part of our high school life where it continued all the way from Year 9 through to Year 12 and beyond. What dance experiences have you had? There hasn’t been too many dance experiences for me in general. During high school, we performed at the end of year Speech Night at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre in front of parents and students of the whole school. I also had the lucky chance of participating in PLC Dance off during those years as well. Favourite dance genre? Having started off with break dancing, it is probably my favourite dance genre but I am open to trying out new genres as each has their own unique characteristics. If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? As a heavily sleep deprived person, the superpower that I would like to have is probably the ability to teleport so I can sleep in and wake up just in time to go where I need to go. In the holidays, you will most likely find me... TRAVELLING! I love travelling to different places and countries to explore their culture and go sight seeing as well. |

When I was three, I saw Swan Lake on TV and told my Mum I want to be a dancer AND a surgeon (just a tad overambitious for a toddler...?) What dance experiences have you had? I started off at Victorian Dance Academy doing every style under the sun (ballet, tap, jazz, funk, hip-hop, acrobatics, gymnastics, contemporary...) then moved on to train at Ballet Theatre Australia under Leeanne Rutherford. I'm currently taking the occasional urban or commercial class when I have some spare time. Favourite dance genre? Contemporary and girls commercial If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? Time control, so I can pause time and nap for as long as I want! In the holidays, you will most likely find me... At home, playing Sims 4 or messing around at the dance studio. |

My first “dance” experience was at MedMove’s session at MD student conference in 2019 to BTS- Boy With Luv. Completely not good at it - I look like I’m doing rehab when I try to dance but it’s a lot of fun moving your body with people and having a laugh! What dance experiences have you had? Mostly at home in the shower if I’m being honest Favourite dance genre? Whatever genre that doesn’t require me to do the splits If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? To be able to touch a book and absorb all the information without reading it In the holidays, you will most likely find me... with friends! spontaneous trips! skateboarding! boxing! |

I got dragged by a friend of mine to join my high school Chinese Dance Club. I never expected to stay in the same club for the entirety of my high school days. I only started to explore other genres of dance when I joined Medmoves 2 years ago. What dance experiences have you had? Other than Chinese Dance, I had never attended proper dance classes until I discovered Medmoves in my first year of postgrad study. So… I’m still pretty much a beginner struggling to keep up with the choreos. Favourite dance genre? Urban and Kpop both discovered after joining Medmoves. I became a little obsessed with Blackpink and spent a tad too much time learning their choreos. If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? Can I choose to be a witch and teleport to Hogwarts instead? In the holidays, you will most likely find me... Eating and on a hunt to discover hidden gems to satisfy my foodie lifestyle… Also travelling and making my way through the bucket-list of places to visit, with a bit of photography on the side! |

My mum enrolled me in Ballroom dance lessons when I was 5, and it’s still one of my main hobbies. What dance experiences have you had? I haven’t branched out much outside of Ballroom, but I did learn a few K-Pop choreographies during high school. I’ve also had the chance to dip my toes in some of the other genres via Med Moves. Favourite dance genre? Other than Ballroom, I like watching Urban and Hip-Hop choreographies. If you had 1 superpower, what would it be? Probably teleportation? It’d be nice to skip out on commutes or long flights. In the holidays, you will most likely find me... Either eating out with friends or travelling overseas. |
